LIVE: Cherry Blur

On 3rd April, alt-pop newcomer Cherry Blur played a packed out show at Newcastle’s Cluny 2, marking the start of her rise in North East music.

If you’re not familiar with the ecstatic sounds of Newcastle alt-pop newcomer Cherry Blur, where have you been? Bursting onto the scene last year with flawless first single ‘Cool About It’,  Blur has been on an upward trajectory - features in NARC magazine and NE Volume, BBC Introducing support, and, finally, a headline show in Newcastle’s cultural hot spot.

Walking on stage to a packed-out Cluny 2 buzzing with anticipation, Cherry Blur goes in for the kill with a performance that not only showcases her impressive range but clearly marks her as One To Watch for 2025.

Her set sees Cherry play with different dynamics - Moody bass lines accelerate into an infectious chorus before making way for slower, emotive moments that allow Blur’s soulful vocals to shine. Gifted with the voice of an angel and the  confidence of a seasoned pro, Cherry Blur effortlessly pulls the audience into her grasp. And just when you think it couldn’t get better, Blur launches into a ‘Red Wine Supernova’ cover that moves even the last stragglers to happily bop along.

But, of course, greatness comes seldom alone. Cherry Blur is supported by an excellent live band made up of local legends in the making, including saxophonist Ollie Styles (Swan Nek) who elevates the Cherry Blur sound to a whole new level of smooth.

With her bubbly personality and infectious energy, Cherry Blur manages to translate her music to the stage in a way that is nothing short of captivating, making her a must-see for anyone with a soft spot for pop music.
