LIVE: Balancing Act
On 30th January, rising indie rockers Balancing Act played an inmate but mighty show at North Shield’s Three Tanners Bank for Independent Venue Week.
From the get-go, it’s clear that the audience didn’t come on a whim. These are fans who have been waiting maybe years for the band to finally make their way to the North-East, and it was well worth the wait.
Perhaps the best way to describe a Balancing Act show is infectious. This band is born to perform, and Kai very much puts his back into it, flexing not only his vocals but his dancing skills. There is a magnetic kind of pull to their energy that immediately draws you in and leaves no room for doubt that Balancing Act are going all the way to the top.
Recent releases and fan favourites like Laylow, Ballad of a Lonely Man and AWOL are interlaced with a few new cuts that see the band try on different styles and showcase their range of skill. Here is an incredibly talented group of lads, who have already cut their teeth on the life circuit, combining forces to create a live show that is as entertaining as it is impressive. Balancing Act give everything and the audience loves them for it.
At the end of a 45 minute set, the crowd is far from ready to say Goodbye - Thunderous calls for an encore are met by a very surprised band; “no one has ever asked for one more song before”.
A small show with a big impact. A “young” band with a bright future. And, judging by their new material, a thrilling EP on the horizon.
